Project Accountant

Job Description

A well-established general contractor in the Carlsbad area is seeking an experienced Project Accountant to support project billing, AR management, and overall job cost tracking. This role works closely with project managers and clients to ensure accurate invoices, timely collections, and clear financial reporting across multiple active projects. This is a Temp to hire position working onsite.

Responsibilities

Billing & Accounts Receivable

  • Prepare monthly construction invoices, including AIA-style billings.
  • Track contract amounts, change orders, retainage, and supporting documentation.
  • Communicate with internal teams and clients to resolve billing questions.
  • Monitor outstanding AR and follow up regularly on past-due payments.
  • Maintain organized and accurate billing records and update third-party billing portals (e.g., Textura, GCPay, Procore).

Project Financial Support

  • Review new project documentation and assist with initial financial setup.
  • Provide project managers/estimators with updated cost and budget reports.
  • Research and correct miscoded job cost entries.
  • Analyze budget variances and assist with month-end job cost closeout.
  • Support ad-hoc financial tasks and reporting as needed.

Tools / Systems

  • Sage 300 CRE (strong experience preferred)
  • Procore
  • Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook

Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred).
  • 3+ years of construction accounting or project billing experience.
  • Experience with AIA billing and job cost reporting.
  • Familiarity with prevailing wage requirements (Davis-Bacon / CA DIR) preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and multi-project management skills.
